Terms of service
The agreement between you and us when you use Grein. Written to be read: if a clause here would surprise you, it should not be in it.

“We” and “us” mean that company. “Grein” means the editor at this site and everything it exports. By using it you accept these terms.
What the service is
Grein renders gradients, materials and motion in your browser and lets you export the result. The rendering happens on your machine, so what you can produce depends partly on your own hardware and browser. We do not guarantee that every effect performs identically everywhere.
Accounts
The editor works without an account. An account exists so a plan and your saved looks can follow you between machines. It is created from an email address and a sign-in link; keep access to that mailbox, because anyone who has it can sign in as you. Tell us promptly if you think someone else has used your account.
Plans and prices
- Free. The full editor, every effect and preset, exports up to 1920px with a small mark in the corner, and up to 9 saved looks.
- Pro. $8 per month, or $4.99 per month billed yearly. Removes the mark, opens exports to 8192px, unlocks video, code, vector and token export, and lifts the limit on saved looks.
Prices are shown before tax where tax applies. Value added tax is calculated at checkout based on where you are. We may change prices, but never for a period you have already paid for, and we will email you before a change takes effect on a renewal.
Payment, renewal and cancellation
Payments are handled by Polar, which acts as the merchant of record. Your contract for the purchase is with Polar, and their terms apply to the transaction itself; these terms govern your use of Grein.
- A subscription renews automatically at the end of each period until you cancel it.
- You can cancel at any time. Pro then continues until the end of the period you have paid for, and is not renewed.
- We do not refund the unused part of a period, except where the law requires it or where the service was materially broken.
Your right to withdraw
If you are a consumer in the EU, the EEA or the United Kingdom you normally have 14 days to withdraw from a purchase. Because Pro is digital content that starts working immediately, you are asked at checkout to agree that delivery begins at once, which ends that right once delivery has begun.
We would rather have a happy user than a forced sale. If you bought Pro by mistake or it did not do what this site said it does, email hello@konturdesign.no within 14 days and we will refund you.
What you make is yours
You own every image, video, vector, token set and piece of code you export from Grein. We claim no rights over it and no credit for it. You may use it commercially, in client work, in products you sell, without attribution and without a further licence from us.
This includes the exported components: the code Grein generates for you is yours to ship and to modify.
What stays ours
The editor, the rendering engine, the site, the name and the brand marks stay ours. Using Grein does not give you a licence to copy the software, resell access to it, or build a competing service out of it. You may not attempt to remove the watermark from free exports by any means other than buying Pro.
Acceptable use
You agree not to use Grein to:
- break the law, or help anyone else to;
- attack, overload or probe the service or the systems it runs on;
- circumvent the limits of your plan, or share an account to avoid paying for one;
- resell the service itself, as opposed to the work you make with it.
We may suspend an account that does any of these. Where the breach is minor and fixable we will ask first.
Availability
We try to keep the service up, but we do not promise a particular level of availability, and we may take it down for maintenance. Because the editor runs in your browser, most of it keeps working during an outage of our servers; sign-in, saving and buying do not.
Liability
Grein is provided as it is. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, lost profit, or lost work. Where we are liable, our total liability is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim.
Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for a consumer’s statutory rights.
Ending the agreement
You can stop using Grein and delete your account whenever you like. We may end the agreement with 30 days’ notice, or immediately if you seriously break these terms. If we end it without cause while you have paid for a period, we refund the unused part.
Changes to these terms
We will post any change on this page and update the date at the top. If a change materially reduces what you get, we will email account holders before it takes effect, and you may cancel rather than accept it.
Law and disputes
Norwegian law governs this agreement, and the Norwegian courts have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory law of the country you live in, and you may bring a claim there. Consumers in Norway may also take a complaint to Forbrukerrådet, and consumers in the EU may use the European Commission’s online dispute resolution platform.
